Little by Little

It's a strange time of year to have a new year's resolution.

I've decided that, really, it's time to stop prevaricating about writing and actually do it. There's no point in saying 'I want to be a writer when I grow up' and yet limiting my writing to a few 140-or-fewer-character tweets each day, or e-mails to friends, or texts, or shopping lists...

Someone recently paid me a great compliment on my skills of observation. Although I suppose I could have read into it that all I do, essentially, is sit around and watch while other people live life, I'm pretty certain that the compliment was meant as such, so have decided not to subject it to negative dissection. I've decided to use it to encourage me to do something more positive about the writing dream.

After all. I'm not going to grow up much more - any more than this would be growing old, not up... and I'm not sure I'm ready for that just yet.

To take the bare look away from this blog, I'm going to add a few posts from an old blog I had a few years ago, which no-one ever got to read, and a few pieces published elsewhere.

Small steps. Little observations. We'll see how it goes.
